Analysis: Jolly, 25, was arrested July 8 in Houston for possession of at least 200 grams of a controlled substance, a second-degree felony, according to court documents. He posted $10,000 bond and was released. He was originally due in court Wednesday, but that date was reset for next month. The 6-foot-3, 320-pound Jolly played in 47 games and started 35 for Texas A&M from 2002-05. He finished his college career with 230 tackles, 6 1/2 sacks and 28 tackles for loss.
The Ravens traded for Tampa Bay defensive end Marques Douglas on Wednesday, reacting quickly to defensive lineman Dwan Edwards' season-ending back injury.
Analysis: The 31-year-old Douglas was acquired for a late-round draft choice in 2009 and a conditional 2010 draft selection. Douglas was with the Ravens from 2001 to 2004 after signing with Baltimore as an undrafted free agent out of Howard in 2000. Last season, he had 72 tackles and three sacks with the San Francisco 49ers. At 6 feet 2, 292 pounds, Douglas is capable of playing defensive end or defensive tackle in the Ravens' aggressive scheme.
Merriman has decided to play this season rather than have surgery on two torn ligaments in his left knee.
Analysis: Merriman informed the team of his decision this morning. The star outside linebacker returned from Miami on Tuesday after seeking yet another opinion on his knee. He said last week he has two torn ligaments in his left knee and has been told by doctors that he could suffer a possible career-ending injury if he attempts to play without having surgery.

Harvey has ended a 33-day holdout by signing a five-year, $23.8 million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Harvey was the last first-round draft pick to sign on Wednesday. His holdout has frustrated coach Jack Del Rio and left the former Florida standout behind in drills heading into the regular season.
Analysis: Harvey missed all of training camp and the first three preseason games. The eighth overall selection in April, Harvey was expected to bolster a pass rush that struggled to pressure quarterbacks last season.
Feely has been cut by the Kansas City Chiefs, a day after signing a one-year deal.
Analysis: Feely was an eight-year veteran who kicked for Miami last season. He was brought in to challenge Connor Barth and Nick Novak for the starting job. The three had what coach Herm Edwards called a "kick off" on Monday and Tuesday to determine who would make the team.
Marshall was in New York on Tuesday to appeal his three-game suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy.
Analysis: NFL commissioner Roger Goodell had indicated he would reduce Marshall's suspension to two games if he kept in contact with a league-appointed counselor and stayed out of further legal trouble. Marshall and his attorney, Harvey Steinberg, want a further reduction in that penalty. Marshall caught 102 passes for 1,325 yards and seven touchdowns last season and has shown no falloff this summer despite suffering a gash on his right arm that required emergency surgery.
The Seahawks placed Schmitt on the injured reserve list, ending his season.
Analysis: Seattle went through three snappers for kicks last season, then made Schmitt its first drafted long snapper in April. Schmitt, from San Diego State, missed most of training camp with what the team said was a sore back. Tim Lindsey will likely be the snapper to begin the season, unless the Seahawks sign a veteran between now and the opener Sept. 7 at Buffalo.
Grove was picked to start at center for the Oakland Raiders on Tuesday, seven months after undergoing microfracture surgery on his right knee.
Analysis: Grove, who started all 16 games for the Raiders in 2006 before spending most of last year on injured reserve, beat out veteran John Wade and took all of the reps in practice with Oakland's starting offense, much like he did throughout training camp and most of the preseason.
Walker watched Tuesday's practice from the sideline after hurting his left arm in a 20-7 win at Indianapolis on Sunday. Walker's injury was described by the team as a bruise after it appeared he collided with fullback Darian Barnes while blocking Colts defensive end Ben Ishola in the second quarter. But the injury to his left forearm is not as severe as initially feared when he was hurt at Indianapolis.
Analysis: Coach Dick Jauron said tests showed the injury was a bruise. He listed Walker as doubtful to play Thursday, but merely for precautionary reasons.
Analysis: Jacobs, in his sixth year out of Florida, signed with the Broncos on Nov. 6 and played six games in 2007, returning three kicks for 35 yards.
Tyree was placed on the physically-unable-to-perform reserve list by the Giants on Tuesday, meaning the player who made a game-saving catch in the Super Bowl won't be making any for at least the first six weeks of the season.
Analysis: Tyree, who's rehabilitating a surgically repaired right knee, can come off the PUP list any time from the first day after the sixth week of the season until the last day of the ninth week. Once he is taken off the list, he has 21 days to either be activated or he is finished for the season. Tyree had four catches for 35 yards and no touchdowns in 12 regular-season games last year. He added four catches for 47 yards and a TD in the postseason.
Jurevicius will miss the first six weeks of the regular season while he recovers from knee surgery. The Browns placed Jurevicius on the physically-unable-to-perform list Tuesday. Jurevicius had swelling and discomfort in his right knee related to a previous operation and needed another procedure in June to further clean it out.
Analysis: After the sixth week of the season, the Browns have three weeks to allow Jurevicius to start practicing. Once he begins practicing, the Browns will have another three weeks to make a decision on his roster status. Jurevicius had 50 catches for 614 yards and three touchdowns last season.
The Panthers addressed their lack of depth at wide receiver by signing Parker on Tuesday, a day after he was released by the Denver Broncos.
Analysis: The 5-foot-11 Parker was Kansas City's fourth-round pick in 2004 and caught 110 passes in four seasons with the Chiefs. He signed a free-agent deal with the Broncos in the offseason, but failed to make Denver's receiving rotation.
Lewis was placed on the non-football injury list on Tuesday to help the Falcons get under the 75-man roster limit.

The Falcons moved Foster to the physically-unable-to-perform list on Tuesday to get under the 75-man roster limit.
Analysis: Foster, signed as an undrafted rookie free agent last season, played in seven games, including two starts at left tackle, before suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in October.
Edwards returned to practice Tuesday after missing a week with a bruised right thigh. Edwards worked with the starting unit, which was without tackle Langston Walker, who watched from the sideline after hurting his left arm in a 20-7 win at Indianapolis on Sunday.
Analysis: Edwards' return means he'll likely see some playing time in the Bills preseason finale against Detroit on Thursday. He sat out the game against Indianapolis. The injury was a setback for Edwards after a solid 9-for-11 for 104 yards and two touchdowns during a two-series appearance in a 24-21 win over Pittsburgh two weeks ago.
The Ravens placed Edwards and two others on injured reserve to reach the roster limit of 75 on Tuesday.
Analysis: Edwards has been hampered by a back injury and sat out in the Ravens' 24-10 loss to the St. Louis Rams over the weekend. The former Oregon State standout started a career-high 13 games last season and recorded 58 tackles in place of injured starter Trevor Pryce.

Analysis: Manning had been on the physically unable to perform list since training camp opened after surgery to remove an infected bursa sac from his left knee July 14. He was expected to go through team drills for the first time Tuesday afternoon.
Jets coach Eric Mangini says he's leaning toward not playing Favre in the team's preseason finale at Philadelphia. Favre has repeatedly said he wants to play Thursday night, but also has said he wouldn't be too disappointed if Mangini decided otherwise.
Analysis: Mangini said Tuesday he hadn't finalized his decision, but when again asked to clarify if he's thinking of not having Favre play, the coach responded: "It would be safe to say that I'm leaning toward that." Favre went 9-of-12 for 96 yards in the Jets' 10-7 win over the Giants last Saturday.
